It was another boyfriend-less Sunday morning and I was curled up in bed with my Blackberry when I got the message from my boss.
BOSS: (9:07am) Are you doing OK? How was date?
Read. Think I'm still drunk. Roll back over.
It was a sweet gesture because that Friday I had left work teary-eyed over the demise of a nearly year-long HookUp with a friend who, time and again, refused to date me legitimately. In a merciful act of pity, the universe had sent me a seemingly-great distraction in the form of an outing with a decent guy on Saturday. Unfortunately, it was a miserable time.
ME: (11:02am) ugh. he ordered 1 sushi roll for appetizer then suggested that we go to Jack-in-the-Box instead of normally-priced dinner. so irritated that I PAID MYSELF and fled!! hate hate boys.
BOSS: (11:04am) Oh no!! You didn't talk to B, did you?
ME: (11:05am) um, lets just say some unfortunate text messages were exchanged after my 5th vodka soda.
Immediately my phone started ringing, and amid the key points of her mothering lecture, THC was born. We'd been tossing the idea around after readers begged for it on our other Confessions sites. But my boss, a happily-married mother of three with a healthy appreciation for her swingin' single days, realized that morning that I was only one victim in the sea of sloppy Sundays trying to connect or – for God's sake! – at least hook it up.
So don't let my selfless act of singledom go in vain. Consider THC your locker room where players swap stories and techniques; a girls' night out where dirty martinis and disasters are recounted; or the therapist's couch when the spice is gone and your boss is looking pretty yummy.
When it's too horrifying to share with even your closest friends, it's time to CONFESS YOURSELF.
